Burnie Club Championhisp underway

The first two round have been played and noone has a perfect score! Two regular juniors, Alastair (current club champion) and Vincent (Robert Isted, Lightning), aren't playing and the opportunity remains for Phil or David to put their stamp on the tournament. Last week David prepared well to outplay Kevin's Vienna. Phil escaped with a draw after looking better during the opening but lost a piece for pawns mid game. Carey ran short of time and wasn't accurate enough. Andrew surprised with a great upset against Peter. Dylan (with b4) and Russell had a ding dong battle with constant pressure. All set for week 3.

Round 4 results plus.
A couple of absences forced some changes in matches, with Nigel generously allowing Carey to play his opponent.

4 James, C 0:1 Horton, R

Round 8:

Round 10:

unfortunately a late blunder by Carey allowed Reg to claim the win.
kevin continued his god form to defeat Peter Lucas, who is sadly lacking any form. Class is permanent however, and it will take a brave man to suggest that Peter will not have a say in this very opn club championship.
I managed to hold Phil to draw with the black army, after dropping a pawn in the middle game.
Once the majo pieces were off Phil was unable to force his extra pawn past with only a knight each on the board. with his king stuck in the wrong corner I missed an opportunity to force a win, playing the safe route. With both of us down to less than 5 minutes t is no surprise we could not find the winning lines.
Phil is one of only 2 undefeated players in the tournament and is my favorite to claim his second club championship. However there are a lot of possibilities so hang in there folks.

Standings as such are:
Place Name played score

1-3 Hendrey, Kevin 4 3
Horton, Russell 4 3
Fifield, Andrew 4 3
4-6 Harvey, Reg 3 2

7-9 Hughes, David 4 1.5
Kuzmic, Carey 4 1.5
Lewis, Nigel 2 1.5
10-11 Lucas, Peter 4 1
James, Cohen 3 1
12 Duiker, Fred 3 0.5
